Introduction:

Many users like myself like to use certain apps because these applications fulfill their desires, but sometimes you feel that you need more options on certain applications even if you find these applications so satisfying. In this article we will try to study the case of one of spotify users by analyzing the problems and providing possible solutions.

Environement:

Before we start with the main subject of the article, we need to see what we are working with and from which perspective. This article will be based on the experience of spotify users, precisely the experience of a woman named michelle.

Spotify:

First of all let’s see what is spotify, we took a look at spotify definition on the official website.

Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video streaming service that gives you access to millions of songs and other content from artists all over the world.

Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video streaming service that gives you access to millions of songs and other content from artists all over the world.

Basic functions such as playing music are totally free, but you can also choose to upgrade to spotify premium. Either way, you can:

  • Choose what you want to listen to with browse and search.
  • Get recommendations from personalized features, such as discover weekly, release radar and daily mix.
  • build collections of music.
  • See what friends, artists and celebrities listen to.
  • Create your own radio stations.

Spotify is available across a range of devices, including computers, phones, tablets, speakers, TVs, and cars, and you can easily transition from one to another with spotify connect.

Who is michelle:

Now let’s see who is michelle that we are going to study her case:

Difference between UI and UX design:

What we are about to do is called UX design which encompasses the entire user journey and it’s often used interchangeably with terms such as UI design, we need to show the differences between those two terms.

Michelle’s journey map:

The first thing a UX designer need to look to is the user’s journey map, that’s why we are going to take a lookat michelle’s journey map so we can analyze it later and identify the problems.

pain points summarized:

After reading the journey map we can take notes of the main probems or pain points.

if we collect the problems michelle is facing with spotify, we can say that they all revolve around discovering new music and saving what she likes without touching the kids recommendations. We can use our imagination and describe it as someone who wants to go on a journey in the widerness but at the same time goes back home whenever he wants and then continue his journey where he stopped last time.

Solution:

After we are finished with identifying the pain points now we can provide solutions for the problems.

Travel section:

In order to give michelle the opportunity to travel in a journey of music we can create a new section in the left nav-bar and call it Travel for “exemple”. everything that will happen in this section will not affect the usual recommendations and types of music that the user is used to listen to.

Travel recommendations:

After accesing the travel section the spotify application should show the user a list of suggested genres of music that she can like with famous artists in each genre.

From here michelle can search for any genre of music she want or or if she doesn’t have something specific in mind spotify applications will show her some genres that she may like with some artists that she can discover.

Saving music to your playlist:

Let’s say michelle now found some good music and she want to save it somewhere so she can listen to it whenever she want without touching her kids recommendations. we can provide her with a section called discoveries where all the music she saved during the travel will be stored there.

Now michelle can find her favorite music in that “discoveries” section.

After she’s finished she can go back to home where everything goes back to normal, but the travel section will not lose track of the previous encouters so if michelle decide to discover more she can continue from where she stopped last time.

Conclusion:

During this project we learned a lot about the UX design and how it works. the fact that the designer puts himself in the place of the user, so he can figure out the pain points the users face is realy effective and helpfull to find the solutions for those pain points. This project showed us the importance of the UX designer and that creating a good software is not only about good developpers.
